Puttur: Two people travelling in a jeep were killed in a collision involving the vehicle and a private bus on Nethravathi Bridge under Bantwal town police station limits in the early hours of Monday. The bus was proceeding to Mangalore while the jeep was headed for Uppinangady from B.C. Road. Janardhana Poojary (32) and Kamala (50), both from Panjikallu in Bantwal taluk died, and Vishwanath (38), another occupant of the jeep who sustained serious head injury, was admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore. The bus, after hitting the jeep, took a sharp deviation to the left, broke through the railings of the bridge and plunged 30 feet down on the river bank. The 40 passengers escaped with minor injuries. The Bantwal town police have registered a case against Nagaraj, bus driver.
