Udupi: Tourism Minister and district in-charge D.T. Jayakumar said on Sunday that the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) should be extended to the entire State. He was delivering the valedictory address at the 26th annual State-level "Krishi Mela" organised by SKDRDP at Koteshwar in Udupi district. Mr. Jayakumar said that it is essential to launch a campaign on rural development in villages, he said. Presiding over the function, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, D. Veerendra Heggade said that Krishi Melas have brought about equality and business-minded approach among farmers. It is essential for farmers to adopt modern and innovative techniques. Superstitions have been responsible for their backwardness.
Slow change
The SKDRDP has removed barriers of caste and class in rural areas. Change should be slow and steady, he said. The exhibition organised at the Government Pre-University Grounds as part of the Krishi Mela had 220 stalls. The products from cottage industries was a special attraction at the Krishi Mela.
