MANGALORE: Nearly 100 daily wage workers from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts employed in various Government departments staged a demonstration in front of Deputy Commissioner's office here on Monday. They were demanding regularisation of services of those employed by the Government as on July 1, 1984, with immediate effect. Jagannath, general secretary of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi district units of the Hubli-based Karnataka Rajya Sarkari Dinaguli Naukarara Mahamandala, affiliated to IRTUC, addressing the protesters said the State Government has not taken any decision despite reminders and representations. The mahamandala has organised similar protests across the State.
Memorandum submitted
In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh through revenue authorities here, the mahamandala said `Suvarna Karnataka' celebrations mean little to these daily wage earners as the Government has not responded to their demands. Hence, these workers across Karnataka observed January 9 as "black day" pressing their demands.
