NEW DELHI: The Congress on Monday urged the Manmohan Singh Government to reconsider the decision to hike issue prices of foodgrains under the public distribution system stating that the move caused hardship to people including those above poverty line. The party said while it understands the compulsions of the Government and fiscal prudence, it believes that the decision to hike the price for above poverty line was "harsh.'' Party spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan told presspersons that women belonging to families above poverty line were already burdened with increase in the cost of living, the hike in prices of foodgrains would make it difficult to make both ends meet. "We urge the Government to reconsider and review the decision and take a new look..."
