HYDERABAD: Physically challenged persons will be provided gainful employment under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme beyond the stipulated 100 days in a year, if they so want. This was proposed by a Cabinet sub-committee at meeting here on Monday attended by D. Srinivas (Rural Development) and G. Vinod (Employment). Their proposal will be placed before the Cabinet for approval on January 17. The Ministers told reporters later that the scheme would be launched on February 15 in the State at the national level. Applications from persons/families for guaranteed gainful employment for 100 days in a year would be received from February 2. The beneficiaries would participate in works from February 15 itself but they would receive the "job cards" from March 1. To create public awareness and prepare eligible families for the jobs, a campaign would be launched on 13 districts selected for the scheme on January 16. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy would launch a publicity programme and a workshop on the day at a village. All aspects of the scheme would be computerised on a software platform prepared by Tata Consultancy Services free cost to ensure probity and accountability and to avoid irregularities.
