HYDERABAD : Members of Pratyusha Charity Trust said at a press conference here on Monday that they would requisition the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, requesting the Government and the NRIs to set up counselling centres and provide legal counselling for Indian women who settle abroad. Trust chairperson P. Sarojini Devi said that many NRIs marry in India taking their wives along with them. In some of these cases, the women were mistreated and tortured for money or sent back to India because of some personal grudge, she said. It is for these women that centres should be set up back in the country where they stay, advising them on the right course of action. "Families spend lakhs of rupees and send their children abroad. They are heartbroken when their daughters are sent back home for no fault of theirs. We in India have a great reputation where family bonds go. We will no longer be remembered for upholding family ties if Indian men are allowed to do this to the women they marry," she said.
