CBI seeks permission for prosecution

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday told the Delhi High Court that it had sought permission from the Union Government to initiate prosecution proceedings against former Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) N. Diwakar in connection with the multi-crore cooperative group-housing societies (CGHS) scam.

As per rules, an officer of the level of Joint Secretary prima facie found involved in a criminal case can be prosecuted only after the investigating agency gets permission from the appointing authority to move against the officer.

A lower court had already issued arrest warrants against the former RCS after his alleged involvement in reviving defunct CGHS on the basis of forged papers and false claims had come to light in the probe.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had come to forcibly capture a godown in Siraspur village at Samaipur Badli at the behest of a local property dealer.
