Vigilance cell official held on graft charge

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has arrested an official of the Agriculture Department's Vigilance Cell on the charge of taking a bribe from a deputy director of the department who is under suspension for alleged corruption.

The accused, P. Viswanathan Nair, a resident of Neyyattinkara, is attached to the Vigilance Cell under the Joint Secretary in the Finance Department of the Secretariat. He was arrested by a Vigilance team when he allegedly took Rs.5,000 in marked notes from the deputy director, T.J. Jose, at a guest house at Nellimood in Kottayam town on Monday. Mr. Jose had approached the Dy. SP, Kottayam, with a complaint that the accused had demanded Rs.25,000 as bribe for writing the investigation report against him (Mr.Jose) in a favourable manner.

Village officer held

The VACB, Malappuram, on Monday arrested K. Sathyanathan, Village Officer, Pandikkad, on the charge of taking Rs.1,000 as bribe for issuing a possession certificate.
