Id prayers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Id namaz will be held at the Putharikandam Maidan here at 7.30 a.m. on Tuesday. It will be led by Yahiya Moulavi Al Qasmi. Acting Imam of the Palayam mosque Moulavi Jamaludeen Mangada has said that Bakrid is the occasion to share God's message of love and brotherhood. In his Bakrid message issued here on Monday, he said that everyone should try to regain the values that have been lost to mankind, work for the rights of the weaker sections, strive to protect equality among all and protect religious freedom. — Staff Reporter

AIE flight rescheduled

Thiruvananthapuram: Air-India Express (AIE) flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai on Tuesday has been rescheduled citing operational reasons. According to Air-India, the flight IC 313 would depart from the international airport here at 11.55 p.m. instead of 7.50 p.m. All the passengers have been asked to report three hours prior to the time of departure. — Staff Reporter

Workshop on oral implantology

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Centre for Advanced Dental Studies is organising a one-day workshop for doctors on oral implantology on Tuesday. Eddie Gillespie from the United States will lead the workshop and also give a lecture on the subject. The workshop will be held at the Hotel Residency Towers. — Staff Reporter

Collector conducts inspection

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District Collector N. Ayyappan conducted a surprise inspection at various locations at Aryanad on Monday following complaints of illegal sand-mining and illicit liquor brewing in these areas. A press note issued here on Monday quoted the Collector as saying that the inspection revealed that the complaints were true. Mr. Ayyappan has directed the Nedumangad Tahsildar to take action against those indulging in illegal sand-mining. The vehicles and equipment used by such people will be seized, the Collector said. He has also ordered periodic inspections and the appointment of a special squad to carry out surveillance in these areas, the press release added.

SBT opens branch

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Bank of Travancore (SBT) opened its 677th branch at Pongummoodu here on Monday. Om Bhatt, Managing Director, SBT, inaugurated the branch and handed over the pass book and cheque book of the first Savings Bank account to Shaji Prabhakaran, Professor and Head of the Department of Neurology, Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. This is the 37th SBT branch in the city and the 555th in the State. — Staff Reporter
