Thiruvananthapuram: A 20-year-old engineering student was killed on the spot when the brand new motorcycle he was riding collided with a private bus near Valakkad, on the Attingal-Venjaramoodu road, on Monday morning. According to Sub-Inspector, Attingal, B. Anil Kumar, the youth was identified as Manu, son of Manilal, Manu Bhavan, Alamcode. The accident took place around 10 a.m. when Manu, a third semester BBA student of Engineering College, Venjaramoodu, was going from Attingal to Venjaramoodu. The private bus was on its way from Venjaramoodu to Attingal. According to the police, the motorcycle, which was yet to be registered and was reportedly speeding, collided with the private bus and the rear tyre of the bus ran over Manu, killing him on the spot. The driver of the bus, Rajendran, has been arrested and charged under Section 304 A of the IPC. The police have registered a case. The body of Manu was handed over to his relatives after the post-mortem at Chirayinkeezh taluk hospital. Manu is the fifth person to have died in an accident in and around Attingal since the new year began. Two members of a family and an autorickshaw driver were killed when the vehicle collided with a private bus on Thursday. A woman who was selling vegetables in front of her house was run over by a private bus on Thursday.
