Thiruvananthapuram: A country bomb fitted with an electric detonator exploded at a salon at Perumathura junction in Kadhinamkulam police station limits early on Monday morning. No one was injured in the explosion that took place around 2.30 a.m. at the salon run by Kabeer. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Attingal, B. Sasidharan, the bomb was concealed in a bag left by a person who had come there for a shave around 8.30 a.m. Despite Kabeer's insistence, the man left the salon saying there was jaggery in the bag. As the person did not turn up again, Kabeer placed the bag in an almirah and locked it while closing shop on Sunday night. The bomb exploded around 2.30 a.m. damaging the doors of the almirah and creating panic in the communally sensitive area dominated by a minority community. According to the police, there were no pellets in the bomb. The personnel of the Bomb Disposal Squad and the Forensic Science Laboratory visited the salon and collected samples. Mr. Sasidharan confirmed that the explosion was caused by the bomb, which had an electric detonator and a timer. Superintendent of Police (Rural) S. Gopinath and senior police officials also visited the salon. The police suspect that the bomb might have been planted to cause financial loss to Kabeer during the festival period. They suspect that a quarrel between Kabeer and his relative led to the incident. The police have registered a case.
