The Cochin Film Society will screen two films in January. On January 16, the Korean feature film, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring (2003) will be screened at IMA Hall in the evening. Directed by Kim Ki-Duk, the film tells the drama of human life that changes with the seasons of nature. It tells of the story of an old monk living in a small floating temple. The story is divided into five segments with each season representing a stage in a man's life. On January 18, the German film Niegendwo in Afrika (Nowhere In Africa), directed by Caroline Link, will be screened. One of the important filmmakers of contemporary German cinema, Ms. Link's 2001 film tells the true tale of a Jewish family who flees the Nazi regime in 1938 for a remote farm in Kenya. Adapted from Stephanie Zweig's autobiographical novel of the same title, the film won the Oscar Award in 2003 for the Best Foreign Language film. The screenings will be held in the evening and on January 19, at 5.30 p.m., a discussion on the films will be held at the society office on SRM Road.
