Student held over college clash

Court remands Dileepan Kumar to 15 days custody

PONDICHERRY: Police have arrested a first year student of the Dr Ambedkar Government Law College over Monday's clash on the campus. The judicial magistrate II, Easwaran, remanded Dileepan Kumar to 15 days custody. Police are looking for other students involved in the clash. Meanwhile, the condition of Joseph Anand, who was hurt in the clash, has improved and he has been shifted to a ward.

Enmity between junior and senior students resulted in the clash in which 13 students were injured. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against 14 students and some unidentified persons. The Pudhucherry Munnetra Congress president, P. Kannan, and the AIADMK MLA, A. Anbalagan, have condemned the incident. "In the last four years it has become a practice for students to clash among themselves. Further, the interference of rowdies and politicians in the college has been on the rise," he said.
