PONDICHERRY: A new political alignment is on the anvil for the coming elections to the State Assembly, with the AIADMK and the Pudhucherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) on Tuesday signalling a possible alliance between the two parties. The State secretary of the AIADMK, A. Anbalagan, MLA, told a press conference that his party was likely to join hands with the PMC during the coming polls. "The AIADMK chief, Jayalalithaa, will be the deciding authority", he said and added that both the parties had been jointly holding agitations on various issues. Later, speaking to the media separately, P. Kannan, PMC president, said he would meet Jayalalithaa soon. "The alliance will take shape at that time". "The AIADMK- PMC alliance will sweep the polls. This will be a natural alliance and not one of convenience," he said. Mr Kannan dismissed the rumour of a possible alliance with the DMK. Praising Ms. Jayalalithaa, he said her government "was a thousand times better than any other State government. In spite of the fact that 12 Union Ministers from Tamil Nadu are trying to negate the good things done by her government, she has been very ably conducting the affairs of the State administration". He said the DMK was trying to set a very unhealthy precedent in Tamil Nadu by trying to create another power centre in the State by using its presence in the Central Government. "This trend is not good in a democracy", he added.
