PONDICHERRY: The Pondicherry Government on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with Jagson Airlines Ltd on Tuesday to operate flights from the Union Territory. Starting February, the airline will link Pondicherry with Chennai, Bangalore and Tirupati. Tourism Director Goutham Reddy and Vinod Malhotra, chief general manager, Jagson Airlines, signed the MoU in the presence of Pondicherry Chief Secretary C.S. Khairwal. Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Malhotra said, "the company would like to operate flights by the last week of January. However, we are yet to get clearance from the Director General of Civil Aviation and Airports Authority of India and other authorities for our operations. We are also finalising a travel agent for selling tickets in Pondicherry".
The airline plans to operate an 18-seater Dornier 228 aircraft for the flights. The flight time to Chennai will be 30 minutes and the cost of ticket Rs 1721; but the company will offer tickets at a discounted rate of Rs. 1300 for the first month. For Tirupati (50 minutes) the charge will be Rs 2721 (at a discounted rate of Rs. 2400 initially) and for Bangalore (50 minutes) the ticket will be Rs 2721 but at a discounted rate of Rs 2400.
