Devotees throng Perumal temples to witness opening of Parama Padha Vasal

`Vaikunda Ekadasi' festival celebrated with religious fervour; special pujas performed



CELESTIAL: Lord Sri Soundararaja Perumal being taken on a procession through the Parama Padha Vasal as part of the `Vaikunda Ekadasi' festival at Sri Soundararaja Perumal Temple at Thadikombu, right, the presiding deities, Andal and Rengamannar, bein g brought through the Parama Padha Vasal in Sri Andal Temple at Srivilliputtur on Tuesday.

DINDIGUL : Special pujas, aradhanas and opening of Sorga Vasal marked the `Vaikunda Ekadasi' festival, which was celebrated with religious fervour at Perumal temples in Dindigul and Palani on Tuesday.

At Sri Soundararaja Perumal Temple at Thadikombu, `thirumanjamam' was performed to the main deity and utsavamurthies around 5 a.m. Later, Lord Sri Soundraraja Perumal and Goddess Sri Soundaravalli Thayar were mounted on a well-decorated palanquin and taken out in a procession around the temple.

The deities reached the entrance of the Parama Padha Vasal. Special pujas were also performed to the deities at the entrance. With Bhattacharyas chanting holy hymns, the Parama Padha Vasal was opened at 6 a.m. The God and Goddess were placed at a florally decorated mandap outside the main prakaram of the temple for public darshan.

Hundreds of people were waiting in a long queue to get the blessings of the Lord Soundararaja Perumal. Later, the Swamy was taken out in a procession on Rath Streets of Thadikombu.

Cultural programmes and bhajans were also performed in the evening. The temple devotees' committee made elaborate arrangements for the festival.

The `Vaikunda Ekadasi' festival was celebrated with religious fervour at Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Rock Fort, Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Ranganathapuram and Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple at Nagal Nagar in Dindigul and at Sri Narayana Perumal Temple at Palani.

Hundreds of devotees witnessed the `Vaikunda Ekadasi' festival celebrated at Sri Kambaraya Perumal Temple at Cumbum. Special pujas and aradhanas were performed in the wee hours of Tuesday and the Parama Padha Vasal was opened at an auspicious time and the Lord Vishnu blessed devotees.

Srivilliputtur

The `Vaikunda Ekadasi' festival attracted a good number of devotees to the Sri Andal Temple at Srivilliputtur, who turned up to witness the opening of the Parama Padha Vasal.

The presiding deities, Andal and Rengamannar, were brought through the Parama Padha Vasal that was opened at 7 a.m. on decorated palanquins. Twelve Azhawars performed `ethir sevai'.

Special pujas and arathanas marked the festival. The Sivakasi Sub Collector, Pooja Kulkarni, the Executive Officer of the temple, K. Rajamanickam, the Chairman, Board of Trust, M. A. Subramaniya Raja, were present.
