Currency flaws

K.T. Sangameswaran

CHENNAI: At first glance, these currency notes would have passed muster.

However, a closer look revealed to employees of a Central Government organisation recently that eight of the new one hundred rupee notes in their salaries had defects.

They were further shocked to find that one note had no serial number at all on it!

Worse, they found that the serial numbers on two other notes were not fully printed and that some of the digits were missing.

The serial number printed at the top of five other notes was cut, with only the bottom half being printed.

When the organisation drew the RBI's attention to the defects, the bank replaced the notes immediately.

It was as well they noticed the flaws immediately; imagine their plight if they had not done so, and used them to pay for their purchases.
