Police add to the din in interest of road safety

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI : The City Traffic police has unleashed a high-decibel campaign in at least half-a-dozen traffic intersections as part of its `Road Safety' awareness programme.

The police have installed loudspeakers, adding to the deafening noise made by air horns and sundry traffic sounds on city roads. Road users complained that they felt as though they had entered an exhibition. Each capsule of the campaign on road safety and safe driving ends with an advertisement of a sponsor.

The loudspeakers had been installed at two places on Anna Salai - Anna Salai-Wallajah Road junction and at the police booth close to Periyar Statue, , besides at the T.Nagar -Usman Road intersection and Madley Road.

Joint Commissioner of Police K.C.Mahali said the road users were being advised on safe driving, need for maintaining lane discipline, importance of wearing a helmet and avoiding unnecessary use of air horns.
