YMCA (Chennai) wins hockey title

MADURAI: YMCA (Chennai) won the hockey boys' title, while St. Augustiar Girls HSS, Panjampatti (Madurai Division), won the girls' title in the 23rd Bharathiar Day Tamil Nadu State school games meet here on Tuesday.

The results:

Boys: Hockey: final: YMCA, Chennai 2 (Nandakumar, Radhakrishnan) bt Sports Hostel, Tirunelveli 0. Third place: St. Mary's HSS, Dindigul 1 (Hariprasad) bt VAB HSS, Thiruvarur 0.

Handball: final: Swamy Sivananda HSS, Coimbatore 18 (Nandakumar 8) bt St. Britto HSS, Madurai 15 (Jeffry Dharan 8). Third place: St. James HSS, Tiruchi 15 (Anbukannan 11) bt St. Vincent MHSS, Chennai 7.

Volleyball: final: Sports Hostel, Tirunelveli bt Sports Hostel, Tiruchi 25-22, 28-26, 25-3. Third place: Sports Hostel, Coimbatore bt BVM MHSS, Thindal, Erode 15-25, 25-17, 25-18.

Table tennis: singles: final: K. Vishwanathan (Velammal MHSS), Chennai bt R. Pradeep (TVS HSS), Madurai 11-9, 11-8, 11-9. Third place: J. Jones Karunakaran (Campion HSS), Tiruchi bt Stalin Prabhu (Govt. HSS), Vilavancodu, K.K 11-3, 11-4, 11-7.

Doubles: final: M.H. Kalwath and N. Sivabalan (St. John MHSS, Chennai) bt J. Jones Karunakaran and R. Santhosh (Campion HSS) 11-5, 5-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-6. Third place: R. Pradeep and Madhusudhanan (TVS HSS) bt M. Arvind and G. Sriram (S.R.V.B. HSS, Salem, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7).

Kabaddi: EVRN Girls HSS, Madurai bt Madurai Kumarasamy Devashanam V.K. Chetty GHSS, Chennai 76-19. Third place: St. Joseph's GHSS Tuticorin bt Sakayarani GHSS, Susaiapparpatnam, Ramnad 52-26.

Vikram Engineering College prevails

Vikram Engineering College gained full points by defeating Pandian Saraswathy Yadava Engineering College 4-3 in the Madurai District Football Association `B' division league here on Tuesday.

Mohan (2), Askar and Vikram scored for VEC, while David, Prasad and Dhanjavanth netted for the loser.
