NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Environment and Forest has accorded site clearance to the Vamsadhara Project Stage-II in Srikakulam district. Announcing this, Andhra Pradesh State Government special representative Ravi Mallu said that the project proposal involved construction of a barrage at Neradi village in Bhamini mandal and balancing reservoir at Hiramandlam village. The project involved an estimated cost of Rs. 863.43 crores and was expected to irrigate 1.07 lakh acres. The total land requirement for the project was 3,968 hectares out of which 38 ha was forestland. Some 6,932 families from 34 villages were likely to be displaced, he said. With this clearance, the State Irrigation Department could go ahead and prepare a detailed project report for the final environmental clearance, he said. The report would have to be submitted in 18 months.
