HYDERABAD : Karnataka grabbed the vital first innings lead against Tamil Nadu on the second day of the three-day final of the South Zone P.S. Ram Mohana Rao Trophy (under-25) cricket tournament at Gymkhana Grounds here on Tuesday. In reply to Karnataka's 210, Tamil Nadu was bowled out for 185 with K.H. Gopinath (68, 102 balls, 7 x 4) being the top-scorer while Prithvi Raj and Ryan Nyan claimed three wickets apiece. In the second innings, Karnataka was 86 for one at close of play. The scores: Karnataka 210 & 86 for one in 17 overs vs Tamil Nadu 185 in 68.3 overs (P. Satish Kumar 36, Shiva Kumar 36, K.H. Gopinath 68, Prithvi Raj three for 51, Ryan Nyan three for 50).
Mehboob, Sriram hit centuries
At Bangalore, Mehboob Basha (155) and M.U.B. Sriram's (116) centuries propelled Andhra to 461 for nine against Hyderabad in a KSCA South Zone under-13 tournament match that commenced here on Tuesday. In the other matches, Goa's Nandesh Falari (116 n.o.) and Karnataka's Shreyas Gopal (136 n.o.) also scored centuries against Kerala and Tamil Nadu respectively. The scores: Andhra 461 for nine in 90 overs (Mehboob Basha 155, M.U.B. Sriram 116, S.C. Singh 55, Sai Sreekar six for 141) vs Hyderabad. Karnataka 303 for four in 98 overs (Shreyas Gopal 136 n.o., O.B. Saikumar 93) vs Tamil Nadu. Goa 317 for six in 90 overs (Nandesh Falari 116 n.o., Keenan Vaz 70) vs Kerala.
Kiran Kumar shines
Opener M.G. Kiran Kumar's 97 not out (13x4, 2x6) helped National CC register a seven-wicket win over Jayanagar CC in the Sri Gopalaswami Memorial tournament conducted by the KSCA Mysore Zonal committee at the Gangotri Glades grounds, Mysore on Tuesday. The scores: Jayanagar CC 233 in 43.3 overs (Gautham 57, Prakshith 40) lost to National CC 234 for three in 33.1 overs (M.G. Kiran Kumar 97 not out). FUCC 276 for four in 45 overs (S. Chandrashekar 54, Ashwin 69, M.N. Naveen Kumar 45) bt Mysore Underwriters CC 118 in 26.1 overs (Naveen four for 36). Jo Jo CC 124 in 39.4 overs (Irfan 40) lost to BEML (Mysore) 125 for six in 19.4 overs (T.R. Guruprasad 43 not out).
KSCA Mangalore zone ties
The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Mangalore zone league tournaments will start from Jan. 20. Clubs, institutions affiliated to KSCA and Dakshina Kannada District Cricket Association have been requested to send their entries to participate in the KSCA tournament (U-16), first and second division leagues. Harsha triumphs
C.S. Harsha Kumar, with a score of 58 nett (12 under), bagged the Ravi L. Kirlsokar Memorial shield, in the tournament for gentlemen played at the Bangalore Golf Club. BGC Captain K.N. Shanth Kumar had a similar score but was placed second on countback on the last three holes. In the Rajkumar Desaraj Urs Challenge Cup for Ladies, Dhrupadi Ramachandran emerged winner with a score of 57 nett (13 under). Gomathi Rajaram finished runner-up with a score of 60 nett (10 under).
