Emphasis to be laid on recovery of loans

Staff Reporter

Nellore: Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Scheduled Castes Service Finance Corporation Usha Rani has said that the organisation was laying emphasis on the recovery aspect and erasing the impression that loans need not be repaid.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, she said that due to her untiring efforts, Rs. 8 crores dues were recovered from April to December last year. On the other hand, only Rs. 25 crores was recovered in the last 30 years. The MD was optimistic that the collection of arrears would reach Rs. 10 crores by March. She also announced a package scheme, wherein the interest would be waived if the dues were paid before March 31 and appealed to the beneficiaries to utilise it, as it would facilitate disbursement of funds to others.

Ms. Usha Rani said an outlay of Rs. 243 crores was formulated for this year and it was expected to help around 1.51 lakh beneficiaries. The amount includes Rs. 70 crores assistance from banking institutions. The MD informed that a State-level seminar was planned in February by roping in the Industries Department, to have a proper tie-up with industrial ventures and to provide proper feed back to prospective entrepreneurs among the SC community members.

According to the official, much emphasis is now laid on schemes such as horticulture, shoe-making and so on. The MD claimed that one of the main aspects of the Corporation was to work for the upliftment of weaker sections and to instill self-confidence among them. She referred to the issue of long-standing employees at one place for years together and hinted at transfer from junior assistant level, soon.
