Chhattisgarh PSC member quits after results row

Raipur: Senior BJP leader Chandra Shekhar Sahu on Tuesday resigned as a member of the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (PSC) amid controversy leading to cancellation of the results of State Civil Services (preliminary) examination.

"I have tendered my resignation to Governor Lt.-Gen. (retd.) K.M. Seth," Mr. Sahu said on Tuesday.

Asked about the reason for his resignation, the former Member of Parliament said: "As a member, I could not do anything to protect the credibility of the Public Service Commission."

It is learnt that the PSC members were annoyed over the style of functioning of its Chairman Ashok Darbari, a former Director General of Police.

The Commission is at present in the midst of a controversy after it cancelled the results of state civil services (preliminary) examination and ordered fresh evaluation of the answer sheets.

The decision to cancel the results, declared on December 19, was taken after it was found that there were factual mistakes in the model answers on the basis of which valuation was carried out. Besides, there were also error in the scaling system as candidates of a particular subject had passed the examination in large numbers.

These mistakes came to light after the commission posted on its website the model answers of state civil services (preliminary) examination. The candidates were taken aback after finding that there were numerous factual mistakes in the model answers posted on the website. One of the "model answer" described sunflower as "national flower".

Besides, there were also complaints about results being leaked to the media much before it was officially announced. -- UNI
