Promotion for Metro project manager

NEW DELHI: The Chief Project Manager of the underground Line II and the underground section of Delhi Metro Line III, Mangu Singh, has been elevated as Executive Director (Corporate Planning) in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to look after overall planning involved in the Metro Project in Delhi and for other Metro networks in the country. As Chief Project Manager of DMRC, he was responsible for the planning, design and construction of the underground Metro running between DU and Central Secretariat.

Dharna staged

NEW DELHI: A dharna was staged by the staff association of Delhi University's Motilal Nehru College outside Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental's office on Tuesday in protest against cancellation of a selection committee meeting called to discuss promotion of two lecturers.

Joining the protest, the DUTA said it viewed the cancellation of the meeting of a duly constituted selection committee as "dictatorial" on the part of the University. "It sets a dangerous trend when the University administration becomes part of the attempt to victimise teachers for being fearless conscience keepers."

Cultural competition

NEW DELHI: A cultural competition for school children was organised by the Delhi Government's Directorate of Education on Tuesday. The Mayur Vihar branch of Bal Bhavan Public School walked away with the first prize at the zonal and district levels.

While Ashutosh Gupta and Nishchay Tiwari won the first prize in the Hindi debate competition, Mohit Aggarwal bagged first place in Hindi declamation. Sajal Mehrotra won the first prize in English declamation while Amit Bhatia of Bal Bhavan Swasthya Vihar won the second prize in Hindi essay writing.

Grant ownership rights

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh on Tuesday urged Congress president Sonia Gandhi to confer ownership rights on occupants of resettlement colonies in the city.

"It is becoming very difficult for them to live in these colonies without any facilities. I will appraise her of the problems and grievances of the people living there," he said.

No water supply

NEW DELHI: To facilitate repair work, water supply will not be available in some parts of the Capital from Thursday morning to Friday morning. The affected areas include Vasant Kunj, Munirka, JNU, IIT, Green Park, Safdarjang Enclave, Safdarjang Development Area, Katwaria Sarai, Jia Sarai, Adchani, D-Block Janakpuri, Sagarpur, R.K. Puram, Sadulla Jab, Lado Sarai, Ber Sarai, Arjun Nagar, Gautam Nagar, Yusuf Sarai, Hauz Khas, Naraina and C and B Blocks Naraina Village.
