NEW DELHI: Following the adoption of the Public Accounts Committee report by the Delhi Assembly on alleged bungling in privatisation of power distribution in the Capital, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party has written a letter to the Chief Justice of India calling for a judicial probe into the matter or an enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation or the Chief Vigilance Commissioner.
Stating that the Comptroller and Auditor General of India had in his report for the year 2004 confirmed large irregularities in the privatisation of power, Dr. Vardhan said now the Public Accounts Committee had also confirmed in its report that there had been huge bungling. Since the Committee, led by Congress legislator S.C. Vats, had recommended that the Government get the scam enquired by the CBI or the CVC and the details be made public, the BJP leader said it was on this ground that
In the letter to the Chief Justice, the BJP has said that on many occasions the Delhi Chief Minister, Power Minister and Lieutenant-Governor as also the Prime Minister, the Union Power Minister and the Union Home Minister had been urged to probe the privatisation of power in Delhi.
Also, he said, a delegation of the BJP had already met the President and submitted a memorandum signed by over 10 lakh harassed power consumers.
Since nothing came of the representation, he said the BJP was now knocking at the doors of the Supreme Court of India. "In the letter to the Chief Justice, it has requested that upholding the ideals and best traditions of the Indian judiciary he should help the people of Delhi in securing justice by treating the letter as a petition."
