Eight more SEZs for Haryana likely

Labour policy will be announced on January 12, says Chief Minister Hooda

CHANDIGARH: Eight more Special Economic Zones (SEZs), including five multi-mega projects, are likely to be approved by the Central Government for Haryana. These SEZs would come up in the districts of Karnal, Ambala, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Rewari, Mohindergarh and even Mewat, the Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said here on Tuesday while presiding over the first meeting of the Joint Task Force.

Mr.Hooda said that the Centre had already approved the setting up of 10 SEZs in the State. Regarding certain special incentives being given to the industrial sector in Himachal Pradesh and Uttranchal, the Chief Minister said that he had already urged the Centre that certain areas in the State too were disadvantageous and they also required similar incentives.

The present State Government had constituted the Joint Task Force last year, comprising Government officials and representatives of the industry, to discuss issues of economic development and growth of industry in the State. Mr. Hooda assured all help of the State Government in redressing the grievances of the industry and creating more industrial-friendly climate. The Labour Policy would be announced on January 12. He also clarified that now those drawing wages up to Rs. 6,500 would fall under the category of workers as compared to Rs. 1,600 earlier.

The Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Industries), P.K.Chaudhary, said that the Government had been pursuing upgradation of technical education to enable it meet the requirements of industry.

Mr.Chaudhary, who is also the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Information Technology), said that the e-governance road map of the State would be finalised shortly.

The Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, M.L.Tayal, said that SEZs would not be set up in congested areas. They would have their own power plants and would come up as a package and not be dependent on others.
