KOCHI: As part of a nationwide programme of adopting villages, called Aao Gaon Chalen, Kochi branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has decided to bring Murikumpadam, at Puthuvype, under its care. A multispeciality medical camp will be organised on Sunday by the branch, in association with the Community Health Centre, Malippuram, in the village. The programme is aimed at providing good medical treatment in the village, affected by the tsunami over a year ago. Medical specialists will attend the camp, expected to benefit 9,000 people. The programme includes a complete immunisation programme for children. The IMA will also help people who are found needing surgery. Abraham Varghese, secretary of IMA, Kochi, said it would make arrangements with hospitals to get surgeries done free of cost. Medicines, free samples supplied to doctors by pharmaceutical companies, would be given free at the camp. M.A. Kuttappan, MLA, would inaugurate the camp, he added. The IMA's Cochin West, Paravoor and Muvatuppuzha branches have adopted villages in their areas. The Cochin West unit adopted Chellanam about a year and a half ago. The Muvattupuzha unit adopt Payippra 11 months ago.
