SHIMOGA: Minister for Medical Education Iqbal Ansari said here on Tuesday that the State Government is committed to set up six government medical colleges in the State, including in Shimoga. Speaking at a function to felicitate the teaching and the non-teaching staff of the Vasavi Vidyalaya on the occasion of its silver jubilee celebrations, he said that the Government will try to start all six medical colleges from the coming academic year. The construction of the medical college in Shimoga is in progress and the work done till now is satisfactory. He said that steps will be taken to provide all facilities to open the medical college here soon. Mr. Ansari called upon private education institutions to participate in the educational programmes of the government. Chairman of Vasavi Vidyalaya Bhoopalam N. Satyanarayan presided over the programme. Secretary of the Vasavi Vidyalaya S.K. Sheshachala made introductory remarks on the occasion. Member of Legislative Council D.H. Shankarmurthy, president of the Karnataka Arya Vysya Mahasabha M.V. Satyanarayan, president of Arya Vysya Mahajana Samiti B.A. Ranganath were present on the occasion. Earlier, Mr Ansari visited the multi-purpose auditorium and newly built planetarium on the school premises. He also presented mementos to the teaching and the non-teaching staff of the school.
