SHIMOGA: The Kuvempu University will confer honorary doctorate degrees on three distinguished persons, Prof. C.N.R. Rao, Linus Pauling Research Professor and Honorary President of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research Bangalore; Prof. D. Javare Gowda, former Vice-Chancellor of the Mysore University; and Prof. S.M. Vrushabhendra Swamy, retired professor of Kannada of the Karnatak University, at its 16th annual convocation to be held on January 13 at Jnana Sahyadri, its campus about 30 km from here. Prof. Rao, one of the outstanding scientists, is a source of inspiration for thousands of scientists and researchers in India and abroad.
Creative literature
Prof. Javare Gowda, who is popularly known in the literary field as "Dejagou", is 87 and began his career as a clerk in the Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore after his MA. He has written more than 175 books, which include autobiography, letters, speeches, travelogues and children's literature. He propagated the importance of creative Kannada literature. Prof. Vrushabhendra Swamy served in the Department of Kannada of Karnatak University for nearly 35 years in various capacities. He is presently working as a visiting professor at the Institute of Kannada Studies in Mysore University and visiting fellow at the Kuvempu University. He has contributed to Kannada literature by taking down the lectures of Kuvempu verbatim.
