Facile win for SBT `A'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Bank of Travancore `A' romped home to a nine wicket win over Max Zeros in the Canara Bank-TDCA `A' division league at the Medical College ground here on Wednesday.

Medium pacer Sony Cheruvathur ripped through the Zeros' innings with an incisive spell of eight for 45.

The scores: Max Zeros 148 in 39.4 overs (Arun 50, Sony Cheruvathur eight for 45) lost to SBT `A' 150 for one in 20 overs (Vinan G. Nair 81 not out, Sanjay Mohan 55).

CPCRI wins football title

CPCRI, Kasargod, scored an emphatic 6-1 win against CIFT Kochi in the football final of the ICAR Inter-institutional South Zone sports meet at Railway Grounds at Hyderabad on Wednesday.

In chess, T.E. Janardhan of CPCRI was winner while Ravindra Babu of DRR (Hyderabad) runner-up in men's section, while Tessy Ronny of CIFT (Kochi) and Sudha Nair of DRR were placed first and second in women's category.

Carrom championship

The fifth Thiruvananthapuram district inter-school carrom championship will be held at the GPO on January 14 and 15 under the auspices of the Trivandrum District Carrom Association and the Lions Club of Ananthapuri. Competitions will be held in team, singles and doubles for juniors (under 18) and sub-juniors (under 14) in both sections. Ramankutty appointed

International umpire S. Ramankutty Nair has been appointed as the chief referee for the 35th senior National & inter-State carrom championship to be held in Pune from January 20 to 25. Ramankutty is one of the vice-presidents of the Trivandrum Carrom Association.
