MYSORE: Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council, V.R. Sudarshan, on Tuesday suggested computerisation of Transport Department to increase revenue from it. He was speaking here at the valedictory of the 17th National Road Safety Week. Mr. Sudarshan said that the revenue from the department could be increased by three to four times if the department was modernised. Work in the department should be computerised, especially in check-posts, he added. Mr. Sudarshan said that regulations should be strictly followed while issuing driving licences, and overloading in autorickshaws, especially of schoolchildren, should be prevented. A rally creating awareness on road safety was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner S. Selvakumar and pamphlets highlighting road safety issues were distributed. The rally was taken out in the thoroughfares of the city before culminating at Town Hall. Mysore MP C.H. Vijayshankar; MLAs H.S. Shankarlinge Gowda and M.K. Somashekar; Deputy Transport Commissioner Narendra Holkar; and Regional Transport Officer Gayatri; were present on the occasion.
