Left parties to boycott Governor's address
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
The Communist Part of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India will boycott the Governor's address.
In a joint press release, CPI (M) State secretary N.Varadarajan and CPI State secretary D. Pandian said the decision was taken to focus attention on issues affecting the people and to condemn the "autocratic" ways of the AIADMK Government.
The parties said that after the floods, they demanded that the Government set up all-party coordination committees to help in relief distribution. This was not done. The Government's "wrong approach" resulted in a stampede that claimed many lives in the city.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Pattali Makkal Katchi earlier decided to boycott the proceedings, since it was being held on Bhogi day.
