Film Chamber remembers Bhanumathi

CHENNAI: The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) organised a condolence meeting in memory of actor, producer and director, Bhanumathi Ramakrishna, here on Thursday.

Representatives of various sections of the south Indian film industry paid rich tributes to the versatile artist of yesteryear.

Veteran actor Manorama said she was one person who did not bow to any body in the industry. "What ever she thinks she used to achieve it with distinction. I always admired her boldness and truthfulness."

Producer AVM. Saravanan said Bhanumathi was the only women studio owner in the country. Her self-confidence and approach to the industry's problems was remarkable. " Her death is a loss to the entire Indian film industry."

Actor Sivakumar said Bhanumathi was a legend in her own right. "Every body says that she is `Asthavathani'. But I would add two more important aspects, which she knew.

Good painter

She is a good painter and astrologer. Both of us acted in the film "Ippadium Oru Penn" (1974). In between the shooting I showed my drawing to her. She asked me to switch off the lights and saw the drawing for nearly 10 minutes and said "Do you feel happy when you painted it or are you happy when you are acting? I told the truth that I was happy to see my painting, as it was an individual effort. When she saw my hand, she said I would get married before September. I got married before June itself."

SIFCC president K.C.N. Chandraseakar, former Minister R.M. Veerappan, producers Mukta Srinivasan and industry representatives including Kothandaramaiya (Keyar), Ravi Kottarakkara, V.S. Raghavan, Charuhaasan, K. Rajan, Anjalidevi, A.M. Rathinam and A.S. Prakasam spoke.
