Residents approach legal aid committee

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Nearly 150 persons in the Old Washermenpet area submitted representations to a visiting legal aid committee, complaining that they had not received any of the flood-relief measures announced by the State Government.

The committee, comprising the Principal Sessions Judge, V. Peria Karuppiah, advocates and volunteers visited the area on Wednesday to hold legal awareness camps and to offer legal aid to the flood victims.

Nearly 300 petitions were received from the residents, with many seeking new ration cards because they had either lost their cards or were never issued a card, said legal aid panel counsel, V. Kannadasan.
