CHENNAI: More than 10,000 people met Greater Chennai Police Commissioner R. Nataraj last year at the grievance redressal meetings held by him on weekdays. A press release from the Commissioner's office said the maximum number of complaints 2,489 related to cheating cases. This was followed by complaints relating to family problems and property dispute cases -- 1,392. The complainants included those allegedly cheated by non-banking finance companies and usury harassment by `Kandhu Vatti' operators (841), besides youths duped by unauthorised manpower agencies, with promises of overseas jobs. Every day, the Commissioner meets people between noon and 2 p.m. The release warned people to be careful of agencies promising overseas jobs, and people offering loans or help to get them loans from banks and financial institutions.
