`Collaboration' is the buzzword in industry

BUSINESS MODELS today change along with technology and technology changes every three years.

This point was explained at the annual M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Convention held at the M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Management.

N.G. Subramanyam, Vice-President and Head TCS Bangalore, said the biggest challenge for an organisation today is collaboration with partners, co-operation with competitors and that of "integrating a global workforce virtually".

M.S. Ramaiah Medical College Principal S. Kumar recalled the qualities of the founder of the group the late M.S. Ramaiah, including leadership, farsightedness, simplicity and honesty. He quoted the founder, "nothing can defeat you unless you defeat yourself".

Former Chief Secretary Chiranjeevi Singh delivered the valedictory address.

Symposium

PES College of Pharmacy will host a symposium on Challenges and Opportunities posed by Biotechnology and Intellectual Property Rights at the PES Institute of Technology Campus on January 20 and 21. The fast-paced developments in biotechnology have opened new avenues for treatment of diseases till now considered incurable. Biotechnology can help our healthcare system. XIME wins prizes

Xavier Institute of Technology, Bangalore, has walked away with top positions in six out of seven competitive events conducted at Atharva, the annual management fest organised by T.A Pai Management Institute at Manipal. The participants this year included three IIMs and other leading B-schools from across the country. The prizes bagged by XIME Bangalore included first position in marketing won by Prashant, Priyanka and George. This game was all about negotiating to get the best deal. Another first was in Crisis Management, won by the team of Sonia, Debasis and Priyanka.

Information era

The industry era has vanished and information era has emerged, according to J.K Suresh, Associate Vice-President and Principal Knowledge Manager, Infosys Technologies Ltd. Addressing the second World Congress on Lateral Computing organised by the Department of Information Science of PES Institute of Technology, he said the world had seen 300 years of developments in science and technology. Lateral computing is an unconventional computing technique that can be applied to human biology and in statistics and economics too, he said. Founder of PES Group of Institutions M.R. Doreswamy spoke.
