NEW DELHI: On the first day of its drive to publicly display names of major property tax defaulters, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's Assessment and Collection Department on Wednesday put up hoardings at six different places in South Delhi carrying the names of over five-dozen people. Interestingly, no sooner the boards went up, at least half a dozen tax defaulters turned up at the civic body's office to deposit their dues without realising that the office was closed on account of Eid. As planned, the civic body erected display boards at Greater Kailash Part II (carrying names of 15 defaulters), New Friends Colony (10), South Extension Part I (15), Lajpat Nagar Part IV (15), Defence Colony (5) And Sukhdev Vihar (1). "All the boards were placed at prominent places like on the main road leading to the market, pubic parks and major crossings so that it could be easily visible," said a senior Assessment and Collection Department official. "For us this strategy works instantly, so despite being a gazetted holiday, at least half-a-dozen people whose name figured in the list rushed to our office to deposit their dues ," he said. .
