Malaysian Minister hands over cheque for Rs. 50 lakh to Jayalalithaa

Towards relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood-hit areas

CHENNAI: Minister for Work of Malaysia S. Samy Vellu on Thursday handed over a cheque for Rs.50 lakh to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa towards the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund for taking up relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood-hit areas.

An official release here said the contribution was made on behalf of the Construction Industries Development Board and the Public Works Department of Malaysia.

Education Minister Ce.Ve. Shanmugam handed over cheques for Rs.9,14,44,502 to Ms. Jayalalithaa. The amount included the day's salary contributed by the staff members of the Departments of School Education and Higher Education and the Tamil Nadu Textbook Society.

Industries Minister Nainar Nagenthran presented a cheque for Rs.1,01,70,690. Employees of the Sugar Corporation, sugar growers and workers of sugar mills donated the amount.

Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister S. Karuppasamy handed over Rs.25,77,323 to Ms. Jayalalithaa. Employees of the Adi Dravidar and the Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department and the THADCO contributed the amount.

Minister for Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes S.M. Velusamy handed over Rs.10,75,069, contributed by the Secretariat employees of the Department of BC, MBC and Denotified Communities.

Minister for Animal Husbandry P.V. Damodhiran presented a cheque for Rs.20 lakh to the fund. Employees of the Directorate of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry donated the amount.

Coimbatore Corporation Mayor Malaravan donated Rs.11.19 lakh and Tamil Nadu Warehousing Corporation Chairman Vinayagamurthy presented a cheque for Rs.10 lakh towards the fund, the release said.
