Letters to the Editor
In the passing of R.S. Manohar, Tamil cinema and theatre has lost a doyen. Manohar's epic plays Lankeswaran, Chanakya Sabdadam, Sisupalan, to name a few, created a sensation. He nursed the drama industry back from decline. The screen villain was a perfect gentleman in real life.
K.V. Rajagopal,
* * * The passing away of Manohar marks the end of an era. His contribution to stagecraft such as introduction of innovative techniques like dramascope is only part of his achievement. Through his mythological themes such as Lankeswaran and the like, he made a bold attempt to redefine the characters of Ravana, Surapadman, Sisupala, and Kumbakarna, traditionally considered obnoxious villains.
P.S. Desikan,
