Pondicherry: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) B. B. Tandon will hold meetings with the Chief Electoral Officer and District Electoral Officers of Pondicherry and Karaikal on January 16. He will be accompanied by Deputy Election Commissioner Ananda Kumar. An official source said here on Thursday that Mr. Tandon would arrive here on January 15 and would hold discussions on January 16 with Chief Electoral Officer S. Kumaraswamy and the District Electoral Officers. He will then leave for Karaikal the same day for a review meeting. Mr. Tandon will leave for Chennai on January 17. Assembly elections in Pondicherry are due in the next few months. Most of the parties have urged that the next polls be held as per the orders of the Delimitation Commission, refixing the number of Assembly constituencies. It is envisaged by the Delimitation Commission that Pondicherry would have 23 (instead of present 21 segments) while Karaikal would have five constituencies against the present six. Mahe would have only one constituency against two. But the Yanam constituency will remain unchanged.
