Festivals, now star-studded

S.R. Ashok Kumar

CHENNAI: Film stars are now coming out of their shells and trying to mingle with their fans.

This trend began with the interaction of stars through the electronic media.

Doordarshan started airing such programmes way back. Now, other private satellite channels are following suit.

Two months ago, actor Vijay celebrated Deepavali at Sivakasi while acting in a movie by the same name.

This Pongal, Surya went all the way to his hometown near Coimbatore to meet his father's old friends.

Star Vijay is telecasting what Surya did in Pollachi and other places on Pongal day.

The other day, actor Vijay drove to Nemam village, south of Chennai on the road to Mahabalipuram, for a day. He tried his hand at farm work and also partook in a community meal, consuming gruel with the villagers.

This may have goaded another young star Silambarasan into going to Parivakkam near Chennai, interacting with the people there, enjoying a bullock cart ride and eating sweet Pongal.
