BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Government has sanctioned Rs. 70 lakhs as the latest instalment for development of Ujjain, Amarkantak, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Orchha, Maihar and Chitrakoot. These towns have been declared as holy cities by the State Government. The State Government had declared Ujjain, Amarkantak, Omkareshwar and Maheshwar as holy cities in 2004-05 while Orchha, Maihar and Chitrakoot were declared as holy cities in 2005-06. The Government has decided to keep these cities absolutely clean and impose ban on consumption eggs, fish and meat in these towns. The State Government has prepared Action Plans for the integrated development of these towns. An Action plan of Rs. 19.39 crores has been approved for Ujjain, Rs. 93.69 lakhs for Amarkantak, Rs. 92.68 lakhs for Omkareshwar, Rs. 3.73 crores for Maheshwar, Rs. 2.16 crores for Orchha, Rs. 39.73 crores for Maihar and Rs. 21.70 crores for Chitrakoot The State Government has also sanctioned Rs. 18 crores for the integrated development of 357 slum clusters to be covered under the ambitious Ayodhya scheme. Under this scheme, five big cities--Bhopal, Ujjain, Gwalior, Indore and Jabalpur- have been allocated Rs. 50 lakhs each for the integrated development of five slum clusters in each city. Similarly, Rs. 10 lakhs each were being sanctioned for the remaining municipal corporations; Rs. 6 lakhs for the development of each Nagar Palika and Rs. 4 lakhs for each Nagar Panchayat in the State.
