Four crushed to death in accident

ONGOLE: Four persons were crushed to death between two buses at Peda Vura near Nagarjunasagar in the early hours of Thursday. All the victims belonged to Prakasam district.

An APSRTC bus coming from Hyderabad to Kanigiri stopped at Peda Vura due to traffic jam. Meanwhile, another RTC bus from Hyderabad to Ongole hit it from behind, leading to a dispute between the two drivers.

Even as they indulged in a wrangle, some passengers got down and stood between the two buses. Then, a private bus from Hyderabad to Ongole hit the second bus from behind, crushing four persons to death and injuring four others.

The victims were identified as Ramesh Reddy, 15, Rosaiah, 22, Adinarayana, 18, and Venkateswar, 22.

APSRTC Regional Manager N.S.C. Soloman Raju, told The Hindu that the next of kin of the victims would be paid an ex gratia of Rs. 2,000 each.

Nalgonda Staff Reporter writes: Inspector Manohar Reddy said: "The passengers were caught between the two RTC buses when the private bus hit one of them." Rash driving and negligence of the private driver is believed to be the reason for the accident.
