Pressure group in Congress against TRS

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A pressure group within the Congress is being created by senior Congress leaders of Telangana in an attempt to dent the credibility of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) during the AICC plenary.

Consisting mostly of those who took part in the separate Telangana agitation of late 60s, the group is planning to hold demonstrations before the PCC headquarters ahead of the plenary to make the high command realise that the TRS is an unwanted baggage. This group feels that the TRS has lost the people's mandate after parting ways with the Congress and that voters had reposed confidence only in the Congress during the municipal polls. Moreover, the realisation that separate Telangana would not be possible unless it received the CPI (M)'s support should alter the Congress party's priority, they say.

Appeal to Sonia

"We wish to appeal to AICC president Sonia Gandhi not to take the TRS leadership seriously," G. Prakash Rao, APSRTC Chairman, said.

Addressing a separate press conference, R. Damodar Reddy, MLA, felt the TRS had lost its credibility and hence was trying to blackmail the Congress.

The party had been rejected by the people as the TRS leaders' contribution to the development of Telangana was nil, he said.

Development of the region was the real issue for the people and the Congress Government headed by Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy was sufficiently addressing the issue, he added.
