CCTVs installed in GK-I market

Staff Reporter

Part of police project to keep watch on markets

NEW DELHI: Thanks to cooperation between the local police and the market association, the M-Block market of Greater Kailash-I in South Delhi is now equipped with closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) without the police establishment having to pay anything. The entire cost has been borne by the market association.

Part of the Delhi police project to equip markets with CCTVs that was expedited in the wake of the October 29 serial blasts in the city last year, the police managed to convince the market association that it was in their own interest that cameras were installed in and around the market for security purposes.

On any given day, the M-Block market, which has about 200 shops, is chock-a-block with traffic and shoppers making it difficult for the police to keep a vigil, particularly during the festive season and also in the run up to the occasions like Republic Day. Following some persuasion and convincing by the police, the market association agreed to bear the entire installation cost which was to the tune of a couple of lakhs.
