Robbers caught

NEW DELHI: Two alleged robbers were overpowered and thrashed by the residents of Shahdara in North-East Delhi on Wednesday.

Around 7-15 p.m., Purshottam Das, who has a Nestle food products outlet at Durgapuri roundabout, was on his home when two persons, identified as Rajkumar and Babu, tried to snatch his bag containing money. Mr. Das raised an alarm, hearing which area residents overpowered the duo and thrashed them. The accused were later handed over to the police, while Mr. Das and his acquaintance, Vikas, who sustained injuries at their hands, were admitted to GTB Hospital.

Man arrested

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man who tried to rob a person of his belongings at Yamuna Vihar in North-East Delhi on Wednesday was caught by the residents.

The accused, Ashraf, is a resident of North Ghonda in North-East Delhi. According to the police, he tried to rob Mofid Ahmed at knifepoint, at which the former raised an alarm. The area residents heard his screams and rushed to his help. They overpowered Ashraf, roughed him up and then handed him over to Bhajanpura police.

Car-lifting charge

NEW DELHI: Three persons were arrested by the Gokulpuri police in North-East Delhi on Wednesday for allegedly robbing a man of his Toyota Qualis car on Tuesday. The police have recovered the vehicle.

Acting on a tip-off that some criminals would come to Johripur at Gokulpuri in a stolen Qualis, the police laid a trap and intercepted the vehicle. During interrogation, the occupants identified themselves as Khurshid Alam, Usman and Waris Ali. They allegedly confessed to their involvement in the carjacking case.

Arunachal Bhawan theft

NEW DELHI: Some miscreants allegedly stole Rs. 50,000 from a room at Arunachal Bhawan in Chanakyapuri on Wednesday.

The victim, Tokio Tarak, a resident of Ita Nagar, had been staying in Room No. 205 of Arunachal Bhawan. On Wednesday morning, he left for Gurgaon on some work and when he returned, he found Rs. 50,000 missing from his bag.

Held for fraud

NEW DELHI: A 58-year-old man has been arrested by the Inter-State Cell of the Crime Branch on charges of cheating people by posing as Director Vigilance of the Delhi Government. After retiring as an assistant with the Agriculture Dept. the accused had been working as a tout at Janakpuri Transport Authority.
