Seminar on Kerala's economy from Monday

Being organised to assess the impact of the new world order on various sectors

KANHANGAD: A two-day national seminar on `Kerala Economy: Challenges Ahead' will be held by the Department of Economics and the Planning Forum of the Nehru Arts and Science College on the college campus here from January 16.

Seminar co-ordinator A. Ashokan said in a press release here on Friday that the seminar would be inaugurated by Kasaragod District Panchayat president M.V. Balakrishnan at 10 a.m. on January 16. The keynote address would be delivered by P. Ibrahim, professor and head of the Department of Economics of the Pondicherry Central University. The seminar was being organised to examine the changing economic and technological environment in the new world order and its implications on the agrarian, industrial and service sectors in the State. In the technical session following the inaugural session, T. Gangadharan of the Kerala Sastra Sahithya Parishad would present a paper on `Service sector in Kerala' and V.P. Raghavan, faculty, EMP International Business School, New Delhi would speak on `An alternative paradigm for Kerala's development.'

On January 17, K.P. Prabhakaran Nair, agricultural scientist and senior fellow, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany, would present the theme paper on the `Agrarian crisis in Kerala: What should be the way out?
