"Record growth in externally aided project portfolio"

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu's externally-aided project portfolio has grown to a record level of Rs. 8,550 crore ($ 1.9 billion) in 2005-06, Governor Surjit Singh Barnala informed the Assembly on Friday.

Listing the projects supported by multilateral agencies, Mr. Barnala said the Tamil Nadu Road Sector Project (Rs. 2,160 crore); Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project (Rs. 597 crore); Tamil Nadu Urban Development Project-III (Rs. 1,957 crore); Pudhu Vazhvu Project (Rs. 717 crore) and the Tamil Nadu Afforestation Project (Rs. 567 crore) were among the projects.

The Governor said: "Tamil Nadu's development and reform efforts have enthused multilateral funding agencies to return to the State and finance its development projects."

He patted Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for effecting the "reversal of fortunes in such a short time span without any adverse reform effects on the poor and the needy."
