ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Friday said he looked forward to exciting cricket between Pakistan and India in the Test and one-day series. The first Test began in Lahore earlier in the day. Gen. Musharraf told Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, who paid a "courtesy call" on him in Rawalpindi, that the two talented teams would put up their best to provide a veritable treat to cricket followers. Mr. Pawar, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, arrived in Karachi on Thursday to attend an International Cricket Council meeting. Later, he left for Lahore to watch the first India-Pakistan Test match.
`Finely balanced'
At the meeting, Gen. Musharraf described both teams as finely balanced and hoped that the current series would contribute to raising the standard of the sport in South Asia. "Both teams have some very good batsmen and high quality bowlers. I am confident that the series will be a treat for cricket followers all over the world," he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press of Pakistan, the official news agency of Pakistan.
