Anganawadi staff plea for pension

KOZHIKODE : The State committee of the Indian National Anganawadi Employees Federation has appealed to the Government that pension be paid to the employees of anganawadis who retire at the age of 58, as per a new proposal.

State committee president of the federation and chairperson of the Kerala State Women's Commission M. Kamalam told presspersons here on Friday that pension should not be denied to this category of workers. "Anganawadi employees in different categories come from the lower social and economic strata of society, and the ICDS project under which the anganawadi workers fall was initiated to uplift this section of women,'' she said.

The other demands included recognising anganawadi employees as Government servants, implementation of the Lida Jacob commission report, increase in honorarium, among others.

Ice-cream parlour case

Despite repeated queries from presspersons, Ms. Kamalam refused to be drawn into a discussion on the judgement of a Kozhikode court in the ice-cream parlour sex scandal case.
